Buckwheat with Gravy (Grechka)
Buckwheat with Gravy
(Grechka)
What you need for the buckwheat:
1 cup buckwheat
1 3/4 cup water
2 Tbsp butter
Toast the buckwheat and rinse after toasting.
I toasted the buckwheat for 1-2 minutes
Combine the buckwheat, water and salt.
Bring to boil on high. When boiling cover with a lid and turn
the heat down to low. Let simmer until fully done.
When done add the butter and mix well.
What you need for the gravy:
1 Carrot
1/2 of an onion
2 tbsp of butter
1 tbsp of flour
1 cup of any broth (I used turkey broth)
2 tbsp of milk or heavy cream
On medium heat melt the butter and add the onions to saute
Add in the carrots and cook for about a minute
Add in the flour and mix well.
Turn up the head and add the broth
Add in the milk and mix well
Season the gravy to taste
Add salt pepper and any seasoning you like
Add any herbs preferred (I used dill)
Add the gravy into the buckwheat and mix well
The buckwheat is now ready to serve.
Enjoy
